Tiana and her pals will be followed on the newly redesigned ride as they explore the bayou and run across movie characters including Mama Odie, Dr. Splash Mountain’s decision to change its theme to “The Princess and the Frog” has been enthusiastically received by patrons who have long decried the ride’s association with the movie “Song of the South,” which has been accused of promoting racist stereotypes. Disney made history with this movie because it featured its first Black princess. In the 2009 animated picture “The Princess and the Frog,” which depicted the tale of Tiana, a young lady who dreams of running her own restaurant in 1920s New Orleans, she previously provided the voice of Mama Odie. Lewis is familiar with the Disney universe. The Bayou Fairy Godmother, who is reputed to be 200 years old and who will be accompanying the journey with her “seeing eye snake” Juju, will serve as a delightfully quirky but knowledgeable leader. In the picture, Mama Odie can be seen making jokes with the visitors while they ride the ride. Disney has just shown a rendering of Mama Odie’s look in the next attraction, which is scheduled to debut in 2024.
The renowned performer and actress Jenifer Lewis will return as Mama Odie in the updated Tiana’s Bayou Adventure roller coaster, which will take the place of Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
